Thanks for the read and the pic's. I've never killed fish except tiny trout as you pictured. Pan fried in bacon grease in a fire at streamside they are magic. Cooked crispy with head and tail on, 4 to the pan, they are something else. Thanks for the memory. I could smell the fire. Steve
Growing up in NH and fishing there and in Northern Maine I often did the same. Corn meal and bacon fat and a cast iron pan were often part on the kit. Brookies were the first thing I learned to cook on an open fire. Brought some home as well and Mom would cook them for breakfast. Fond memories for sure.
