I was recently asked who I listen to in these ever-changing political times. While there are plenty of voices out there, the ones I give most credence are the one who have significant experience in reading the political weather map.
There are three sources that I have been reading and listening too for the last five years. They consistently offer the best discussion, analysis and gaming out of the political landscape.
Started in 2019 by Sarah Longwell, Charlie Sykes, and Bill Kristol, they have a deep bench of writers and commentators. I haven’t always agreed with each and every take by each and every contributor, but I have always felt smarter.
David Axelrod, Mike Murphy and Robert Gibbs are hard to beat when it comes to experience in the political arena. They are regularly joined by a guest to discuss the current political events. I have yet to miss an episode, it’s that informative.
Nichols is a staff writer at The Atlantic and retired professor at the U.S. Naval War College. His writing and commentary is always thought provoking.
These days I try to separate my thinking from personal opinion or engage in wish casting. I’ve been at this long enough to know there is little value in broadcasting my personal opinion or indulging in fantasy politics. I prefer to focus on the strategy and tactics. These three sources are invaluable to that effort.
