If you are an inveterate brook trout angler, spring heralds the start of some of the most glorious fishing of the year.
As astute readers know, I guide and teach for Mossy Creek Fly Fishing. Each week, they put out an excellent fishing report. This week’s report is a terrific, early season chalk talk on what to expect in the mountain streams and spring creeks in and around the Valley. Don’t miss it!!
Here are a few key take aways:
The water levels are down so the larger mountain streams are the best bet
The bugs are bigger and there are more of them
You can fish bigger dries and nymphs (12s or 14s)
Fish are looking up, so expect improving dry fly action
Start looking for sulphurs on the spring creeks
Here’s hoping you get a chance to get out and enjoy this wonderful time of year.
Dry dropper was hot on Smith creek this afternoon with Nick from Mossy.
