One of the best parts of guiding for Mossy Creek Fly Fishing is a chance to partake in some field exercises (FEX). The other night Nick, Brian, Shane and I took a little time to look for a few risers sipping on green drakes on Mossy Creek.

There is plenty of good natured “coaching” taking place during these outings and of course there is always a post FEX debrief on the tailgate…

Yours truly managed to fool a couple with a golden retriever while I waited for the main event.

Nick fooled a nice one on a green drake dry.

We’ve had a bit of weather today so the spring creeks will be a bit murky this weekend. So streamers may be the way to go. It’s a great chance to coax a brown off the banks…

The mountain streams should be in great shape with a little refresh from the rains.

Here is the latest beta from the shop.

MOSSY CREEK FLY FISHING UPDATED FISHING FORECAST

It has rained around the Shenandoah Valley today off an on. Rain has been heavy at times. There are a few bands of storms left to hit our area this evening. The South Fork Shenandoah is now rising and will be too muddy for good fishing this weekend. North River, Dry River, and Skidmore Fork were still in good shape as of 6pm Friday evening. Mossy Creek and Beaver Creek were also in good shape. Many streams to our west are now blown out. The Jackson, Bullpasture, Cowpasture, Maury, James River, South River, Tye, and Rockfish are all on the rise. Please keep an eye on the USGS Gauges by CLICKING HERE before you head out. We will continue to try and update areas that are fishing well throughout the weekend. Head to the upper reaches of the mountain streams for some brook trout fishing or try the spring creeks as a backup plan. It looks like the rain will be done in a few hours from now so things will be cleaning up and dropping all weekend. Have fun and be safe out there!

Get out there this long weekend and enjoy some prime time fishing.

Please take a moment to remember and honor those servicemen and women who paid the ultimate price for us. We owe them our more than words can express.
