I shot this image the first weekend in February this year. I look at it almost everyday and think, the best time of the years is just around the corner. I can’t wait.
I fish here often, because it’s a favorite place to start a 4-6 hour adventure. It only takes about 15 minutes to walk to it from where I park the truck. It has a comfortable spot to sit and string my rod, pick out a fly or two and collect my thoughts.
It’s a classic pool with many features. On the right in this image is the tail of the pool. Moving up the center is a deepening channel. At the head is a faster riffle. You can see slower water near the far shore in the center of the photo.
This pool is a microcosm of the stream. I’ll spend time here trying out different setups to see if I can get a read on what’s likely to work. What happens here is usually a harbinger of day’s entertainment.
Astute readers know I teach and guide for Mossy Creek Fly Fishing. When I read this week’s newsletter this morning I felt like I was standing in the shop talking with another guide. You will find extremely helpful information and tips for spring time fishing in our mountain streams and spring creeks. There are suggestions on leader and tippet, flies, and essential accessories along with the reasons for those suggestions.
If you plan to get out soon, I encourage you to check it out it is really excellent information.
If you don’t get their newsletter, you can sign up here.
Enjoyed reading this snippet into Tom’s “harbinger of today’s entertainment.”
Tom, do you guide on that water?
