Beginner's luck
My friend Jon is new to fly-fishing and keen to learn. We spent a little time in the backyard going through the casting fundamentals and he was game to give it a try on Dry River. My wife Beth suggested a tenkara rod might be a perfect way for Jon to catch some brookies. Given the dry fly action I had been seeing lately, it made perfect sense.
A very short casting lesson and a little “reading the water” tutorial had Jon fishing in no time.
His accuracy quickly improved and when he laid a text book drift into a tight, undercut root wad lie, he was well rewarded. Proving once again, tenkara is a great way to start fly-fishing.
Fishing forecast: If we keep getting rain, I’ll keep chasing the brook trout…
