Pete Kutzer is an exceptional caster, teacher and all around good guy. In this video from the American Museum of Fly Fishing, he takes the Uslan Model 7913, a 7’6”, 5wt, bamboo rod to the Battenkill to see how it performs.
Check it out.
My affection for bamboo has grown the more time I spend with my Sweetgrass rod. Pete’s commentary about casting and fishing the rod is note worthy.
He talks about the “feel” of the rod, the difference in a five-sided rod versus a four- or six-sided rod and the “personality” of the rod (and the angler). All things that rang true to me when I fish my Sweetgrass rod.
The American Museum of Fly Fishing’s “Fishing the Collection” series features vintage bamboo rods from their collection in the hands of today’s anglers. You can see more videos here.
Tom, that was a wonderful video. Got out with the new Helios yesterday and loved it…it was a laser beam. I have that Sweetwater website bookmarked….someday
